Hunting Season Notice

During hunting season, visitors hiking in surrounding watershed areas or State Game Lands should wear hunter-orange clothing. Pennsylvania Game Commission regulations require orange clothing while hiking through State Game Lands.

LVAAS allows scout groups to camp at Pulpit Rock Astronomical Park (PRAP) on weekends closest to the full moon, when club observing activity is typically lower.

Scout groups may either hike into the site or drive up and car camp. Hiking groups often stay one night, while car camping groups commonly arrive Friday evening and depart Sunday.

If weather permits, LVAAS hosts will open observatories for astronomical observing. Solar observing may also be available during the daytime. If observing conditions are poor, an astronomy presentation may be provided instead.

Commemorative Patches

Scout groups may purchase commemorative PRAP patches during their visit. Patches are approximately 3.5 inches in diameter and feature the LVAAS logo. Cost: $5 each.

Camping Rules & Site Information

  1. No open campfires. Cooking must be done using charcoal or gas. Screen-covered elevated fire barrels are acceptable.
  2. Camping is restricted to LVAAS property. Camping in the woods outside club property is prohibited and may result in fines.
  3. No potable water is available. Groups must bring all drinking and cooking water.
  4. An outhouse is available. Please bring your own paper supplies.

Your LVAAS Host

An LVAAS member will serve as your host for the weekend and assist with entry and exit through the locked access gate.

Groups should plan to arrive and depart together. Late arrivals and early departures should be minimized, as access requires host assistance.

Vehicles towing trailers must be four-wheel drive due to the steep mountain road.

There is no fee for site use, though volunteer service projects may occasionally be available during suitable weather conditions.
